Elaeagnus pungens ‘Maculata’
Evergreen shrub, to 6-8 ft, with densely held, 3" leaves streaked deep green and creamy yellow, the branches and leaf petioles adorned with gold stipules. Yum! The small gold flowers, though attractive if you are less that 2" away, are most renowned for their strongly cloved and vanilla scent, for us from fall to spring. Drought tolerant once established but we find it necessary to water a few times per summer for vigor. One of the easiest and most useful broadleaved evergreens for screening or large containers. Full sun. Remains evergreen even to the bottom of USDA zone 7.
